Agreement is Important
3 Nephi 12: 25
Agree with thine adversary quickly while thou art in the way with him, lest at any time he shall get thee, and thou shalt be cast into prison.
DC 20: 69
And the members shall manifest before the church, and also before the elders, by a godly walk and conversation, that they are worthy of it, that there may be works and faith agreeable to the holy scriptures walking in holiness before the Lord.
DC 29: 33
Speaking unto you that you may naturally understand; but unto myself my works have no end, neither beginning; but it is given unto you that ye may understand, because ye have asked it of me and are agreed.
DC 41: 2
Hearken, O ye elders of my church whom I have called, behold I give unto you a commandment, that ye shall assemble yourselves together to agree upon my word;
DC 42: 3
For verily I say, as ye have assembled yourselves together according to the commandment wherewith I commanded you, and are agreed as touching this one thing, and have asked the Father in my name, even so ye shall receive.
Let me start by saying, "Agreement" and "In Agreement".
Take note of DC 20:39, where I believe this is the basis of where agreement starts. That our works and faith exist in agreement to the holy scriptures. That we do our best to curb our own shortcomings, of what is known and understood, so that shortcomings do not become the prick that annoys or causes a fall.
To be in agreement with the holy scriptures is the first step to having the ability, understanding and knowledge to achieve agreement with others, both in the Church and out. The former is important to maintain good fellowship and the latter to ensure your faith and stance is not compromised while maintaining yourself in peace. I say "to maintain yourself in peace", because there are some people that thrive on contention and confrontation no matter what you do.
Agreement brings peace, it harbours co-operation and acceptance. It provides a ground by which two or more people can interact, even with diverse viewpoints or beliefs. In saying that please remember that agreement with evil is a sin. We are never to agree with evil, evil ways or evil beliefs. The agreement in this is giving the person the freedom to believe what they want, but at the same time ensuring that you take the appropriate measures to protect yourself from spiritual, mental, emotional or physical harm.
A person of this Church can achieve a strong position for him/herself and achieve agreement in most anything. Of course, sometimes it requires work and personal improvement, since God is one who brings to us our shortcomings to face and resolve.
Amen
