Viewing Problems? - Some Answers and Suggestions

Internet Explorer 7 (IE7)

There were compatibility issues with java script used on this web site when viewing with IE7. Due to security changes and some improvements, IE7 is not so accepting of any oddities of CSS or java script, and in some ways, older java script codes are purposely rejected by IE7. I believe that I have resolved the incompatibility issues that did appear with IE7 and this web site now works with the new Microsoft browser. This web site should work with IE7 and IE6. If you still use IE5x, please upgrade. IE5 is no longer supported by Microsoft and as I need to upgrade this web site to the current browsers, that will eventually lead to the exclusion of older browsers.

User Agent String Utility version 2 for IE7

Microsoft offers this neat utility for anyone who now uses IE7. Some web sites owners will not bother to update or fix compatibility issues between their web site and IE7. Also if any part of this web site happens to fail in IE7, you can use this utility to make IE7 work as IE6 and you can then temporarily overcome IE7 issues and view a web site as "IE6". You can get this utility from Microsoft >> User Agent String Utility version 2 for IE7

Tabs - IE7

IE7 has advanced making use of Tabs, but will not yet match the flexibility of FireFox as yet. A person cannot use the "pop-up" text menu as a "pop-up" and be able to open "new window" links in a new tab at the same time in IE7 by simply clicking. The "T" text menu image link usually opens as a "pop-up" window of a smaller horizontal size and shape. IE7 will not allow it if you have it set in "Internet Options" that programs or "new window" links open in a new tab. Even the right click context menu does not allow the text menu to open as intended. I have still to work on this to find a better way. Also, you cannot drag and link to a tab in IE7, expecting it to open in that tab. All that will occur is the link opens in the tab currently opened in the browser. The best way to use the current configuration of IE7 is to right click any link in the text menu, and open in a "new window" or "new tab", or use FireFox.

CSS Menus in IE7

The Main menu at the top of each page, uses javascript. I have searched the Internet for "pure CSS" menus and could not find any CSS code that do not need scripts to operate in IE6 or IE7. It is just the way Microsoft made their browsers. In fact, the major contributor to the restrictiveness of IE6 or IE7 are people who continually hack and attack Microsoft. They contributed greatly to the way IE6 or IE7 works. FireFox, and other browsers like it, usually do not need any javascript for pure CSS menus to work. IE6 and IE7 require javascript of some type to even use CSS menus.

If anyone knows of a CSS menu that works in IE6 or IE7 and does not need any javascript, send me an e-mail with a link. I would welcome help in that area.

Overlapping Text

Are you seeing the text in your browser window run into or overlap other text, or that some text is larger than others?

The overlap occurs when your browser window is reduced in size. The CSS setup I use at this time, does not allow for adjustments to the content when the browser screen is reduced. Some text and images may overlap if you reduce the width of the browser window too much. As for a notebook computer or palm pilot, I have not tested these pages in those mediums. The pages may or may not appear properly.

The best thing to do is to make the browser screen near full size or full screen.

If by chance you still see overlapping text when the browser is full size, another reason is that something may have corrupted the source code (HTML and CSS code) of that web page. The solution is to send me an e-mail alerting me to the problem with URL address or web page title. I will address the problem as soon as I can.

Text too small?

Most or all of the pages here on Inner Light Vision.com, have fixed text sizes by way of CSS. If by chance you find the text size too small, you can do one of two things:

  1. Go to the "edit" in the top menu of the browser, and select "text size" and select the size you want. That may alter the text size in the screen.
  2. Click the "HTM" image to read the pages in basic HTML-text. Read the same page in basic text-html format.

The reason that I fixed the text size is because others may not be aware they can change the text size in the browser screen and have trouble using computers other than basic viewing. To elevate this, and to create a standard, I have made the effort to fix text sizes. This way the text size is standard for most browsers, and those who know very little about making adjustments in their browser need not worry. Then, any differences still found between browsers is due to the software and not this web site. Such differences can be seen when viewing the same web page in IE 6.0 (Microsoft) and Firefox web browsers.

Secure Network

Viewing within a secure network may deactivate the scripts I use for the menu and other web page functions. This means the main menu is removed, java-labels do not work, and other script functions that administer to the web page appearance and function will not work. The only thing that works fine in a secure network is CSS. You can see this on the main page as you place your cursor over the links listed on the right side of the page.

The solution is two fold.

1 - Text Menu -   On each page of this web site, you will see an image showing an underlined letter "T". This signifies the "Text Menu". Right click the image, and "open in new window". Once done, you can re-size that text menu window to a smaller horizontal window. Place your cursor over any of the pages listed and click and hold as you drag that link to another browser window. If that is a problem, simply right click and open a link in a new window.
2 - HTML Only Pages -   ON the main page, you will see a "HTM" image signifying that all the web pages are also posted in basic "text-html" format. This means there are no scripts, no images, to worry about within your secure network. You can click the "HTML" image or in the Text Menu, it is listed as well. The link will take you to a main HTML-Index. Each time a new page is posted, I will also post that page or article into basic a text-html format. This HTML index will also serve as an archive.

Older Browsers

This site is best viewed with current browsers because of CSS and Javascript requirements. If there are viewing problems, and you have an older browser (older than Netscape 4.7, IE 5.0, Firefox 1.01), please update your browser. Most are free. One of the problems with older browsers is that they are not compliant with W3C and CSS1 and CSS2 web page standards. Just because the browser is free, and from an "unknown" programmer, does not make that browser a good choice. It is best to stick with the most well known browser as Microsoft IE6, Firefox, or Netscape.

Malicious scripts or Ad Pop-ups

There are no malicious scripts used on this web site or any "ad pop-ups". This web site is privately owned. There will not be any such scripts or pop-ups on this site. If you happen to find these things here, please send me an e-mail alerting me to the page affected. It is possible to "hack" this web site and alter any of it's pages.
